Oddly enough, this plant came from my childhood home.

Technology: pro/con
After signing up on two social networks recently. I am wondering what kind of world I'm living in-- actual or virtual? And are these the same? Is my front porch bigger or smaller? I'm not going to bore you with the discussion in my head... just ponder it yourself.

Amazon Rocks
Amazon invited me to review books via a new program called "Vine." I get a monthly list of books to choose from, based on a preference list that I can amend, all of which come to me prior to the book's actual release date. From the monthly list, I can pick a book and they send it to me for free so that I can review it. I suppose they are looking for reviewers to create a little buzz. I'm all for that! This month's selection is called The Seamstress. I'll let you know how it goes. I've got my needles crossed for a cool knitting book to review......

Remember When I Used to Knit?
No, me neither. . .
Summer is a difficult time of year to be inspired by wool. It's really the last thing I want to be fiddling with. I'm waiting for some Euroflax linen to come in at my LYS, but it's taking a while. I'm kind of tired of socks at the moment, I have socks on sticks, but I'm just not feeling a push to finish them--- I guess my feet are sending my brain messages: "we're hot! don't you dare think of slapping any socks on us, you fool!"
A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by my LYS ( not that I needed a thing--- I just missed seeing the knitty ladies) and I ran into a perfect project --- Faire Isle fingerless mitts. Perfect in that it's portable, knitted in rounds and a new skill (colorwork), plus it's one of the best projects to use up odd bits of wool. I hope that I'm not setting myself up for a disappointing ending.

Planted!
Before.....
After......
It doesn't look like much just yet, but hopefully it will soon! There are about 9 rows, each row has a different variety of lavender -- this is a basic experiment in quality and viability of various lavender cultivars. Grow babies, grow! Oh, yeah, pray for a little rain, getting water to the plants is a bitch until my watering sysetm arrives next week- yea!

Man with Tractor Gets Stuff Done
And the field is just about ready to plant. It helps to know a nice man with a big tractor, or aka DAD. I am facing north-east with Marshall Creek to the right.

Lavender
Over the past decade, lavender fields here and here (as well as several others) starting popping up in the Texas Hill Country. They are just lovely! I have been inspired to try an experimental field near where I plan to build my house. Is there something wrong with that -- plants prior to house? Probably so. I would also love to plant lavender in a more formal landscaping situation later. Well, here's the beginning of the hard work ahead.
This gentle slope is pretty much just a grassy bit right now. I am facing west while taking the photo and the slope goes down to one of the creeks. Ultimately, this will be behind my house & between my house & my guesthouse.
